Abstract
Hávella (Clangula hyemalis) er tegund sjóanda (Mergini) sem lifir kringum norðurhvelið. Stofnum hennar hefur víða hnignað nýlega og þekking á þróunarsögu og stofnskiptingu tegundarinnar gæti nýst við verndun hennar. Hluti af stjórnröð í hvatberaerfðaefni hávella frá austur hluta Rússlands, Alaska og Kanada hefur áður verið raðgreindur og hér bætast við raðgreiningar frá Maine, Íslandi og Danmörku. Athugun á breytileika í þessu erfðaefni bendir til þess að hávellur frá ósi ánna Yukon og Kuskokwim séu frábrugðnar frá öðrum svæðum, þar á meðal íslenskum varpfuglum. Lítill eða enginn munur er milli annara svæða en þegar litið er á aðgreiningu svæða á stærri skala kemur skipting milli Ameríku og Evrasíu best út af þeim skiptingum sem litið var á. Ekki er hægt að staðsetja íslenska varpfugla með tilliti til þessarar skiptingar með vissu en þær eru frekar líkari evrasískum hávellum. Einangrun og aðgreining hávella utan YKD virðist vera lítil og í samanborið við sumar aðrar andtegundir (Anatidae) er einangrun milli hávella YKD og annarra hávella ekki mjög mikil.
