The company says the new channel will be in about 70 million homes and'll feature hundreds of hours of new lifestyle and documentary-style shows. Oscar-winning director Spike Jonze, a long-time VICE partner, has been named to oversee the channel's development. The company's announcement includes a brief mention of what founder Shane Smith calls \new and innovative monetization strategies,\ appearing to hint at a strategy of hip, edgy, new infomercials produced by Vice. The company says it's working with advertisers to 're-imagine' the nature of television commercials and plans to make them 'a valuable extension of the entertainment programming itself.' Bloomberg reports Vice is raising half a billion dollars from the deal in exchange for turning over 10 percent stakes to both A+E Networks and Technology Crossover Ventures. Last year, 21st Century Fox bought 5 percent of the company, which began counter-cultural canadian magazine and is currently valued at two and a half billion dollars.
