Abstract
Dans ce numéro, nous vous présentons des textes relatifs à la grave situation de famine qui a prévalu dans l'Est du Québec suite à de piètres récoltes résultant de conditions atmosphériques inouïes; en fait tout l'Occident fut touché durement par la température erratique de cette année 1816 qui serait le résultat d'une série d'éruptions volcaniques très intenses, dont celle du mont Tambora, en Indonésie, en avril 1815. \n \nLes deux textes sont extraits d'un rapport "concernant l'état de la détresse des paroisses en bas de Québec" et de la Gazette de Québec 1816. D'importantes sommes d'argent, de semences et de victuailles furent octroyées par le gouvernement du Bas-Canada en 1816 et 1817 pour aider les habitants les plus touchés par la catastrophe climatique surtout ceux de l'Est du Québec.
