Trong Khuôn khổ Đa dạng Sinh học Toàn cầu Côn Minh - Montreal (Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework), yêu cầu về bảo tồn công bằng và hiệu quả đang trở nên cấp thiết hơn bao giờ hết. Trong bài đánh giá toàn diện của mình, Dawson và Suich (2025) chỉ ra một thiếu sót quan trọng: các đánh giá tác động xã hội (social impact assessments - SIAs) - được thực hiện để đánh giá ảnh hưởng của các hoạt động bảo tồn đến cộng đồng người dân - vẫn chưa phù hợp với các mục tiêu xã hội hiện đại, đặc biệt là liên quan đến quyền, hệ thống kiến thức và sự tham gia của người bản địa và cộng đồng địa phương.
