Det har gjorts enorma framsteg inom AI under de senaste åren, och AI är numera en integrerad del i vår vardag. Redovisningsbranschen påverkas av denna utveckling då många arbetsuppgifter inom redovisning kan automatiseras. Syftet med studien är att analysera hur AI påverkar redovisarens yrkesroll och kompetensutveckling, samt undersöka vilken inställning redovisare har till denna förändring. Studien baseras på en kvalitativ forskningsansats och data har samlats in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med fem personer från olika företag och med varierande erfarenhetsnivå. Den teoretiska referensramen omfattar redovisningens grunder, artificiell intelligens, innovationsspridningsteorin, samt tidigare forskning på hur AI kan användas inom redovisningen och hur AI påverkar redovisares kompetensutveckling. Resultaten visar att redovisare överlag har en positiv inställning till AI och ser teknologin främst som ett verktyg för effektivisering. AI används i dagsläget främst vid hanteringen av inköpsfakturor och andra enklare uppgifter, men tillämpningen är ännu relativt begränsad och mycket beroende av mänsklig kontroll. Studien lyfter även fram en ökad förståelse för AI, IT-kunskaper, analytisk förmåga, och rådgivningsförmåga som en viktigare del i redovisarens kompetensprofil.
