Avaliação das alterações induzidas pelo aparelho de herbst em indivíduos classe II após surto de crescimento pubertário

Abstract
A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em três estudos. O 1º trabalho foi desenvolvido com o propósito de avaliar as alterações dentárias e esqueléticas naturais e induzidas pelo uso do aparelho de Herbst bandado em indivíduos após o surto de crescimento pubertário. A amostra foi constituída por 60 indivíduos apresentando má oclusão de Classe II divisão 1a. com deficiência mandibular, após o surto de crescimento pubertário. O grupo experimental foi constituído por 34 indivíduos, leucodermas, com idade cronológica inicial de 15,51 anos, de ambos os gêneros. Foi utilizado para comparação um grupo controle de 26 indivíduos, leucodermas, não tratados ortodonticamente, pareados quanto à idade cronológica (idade inicial de 14,7anos) e esquelética do grupo experimental, derivados do Burlington Growth Centre, Departamento de Ortodontia da Faculdade de Odontologia, Universidade de Toronto, Canadá. As telerradiografias em norma lateral foram utilizadas para análise. A análise estatística foi realizada por meio do teste t de Student, com nível de significância de 5%. Concluiu-se que o aparelho de Herbst foi capaz de tratar a má oclusão de Classe II de forma satisfatória em todos os indivíduos após o surto de crescimento. A correção da má oclusão de Classe II foi obtida por uma combinação de alterações esqueléticas e dentárias. O 2º trabalho teve como objetivo comparar as alterações esqueléticas e dentárias induzidas pelo aparelho de Herbst splint metálico e bandado na correção da má oclusão de Classe II divisão 1a., após o surto de crescimento pubertário.
