In 2019, I was hired as an editor at the Literary Review of Canada, our country's national book review magazine.In 2021, the Coronavirus fired me.Yet, the COVID-19 pandemic is not the first crisis that Canada has experienced.And it certainly won't be the last.My research examines Canadian literary magazines during such times of crisis, including World Wars I & II, the Great Depression and, yes, the Coronavirus pandemic.By diving into the audiences, economics, histories, and themes of publications such as The Fiddlehead, Maclean's, Quill & Quire, Saturday Night, and The Walrus, I study how and why some of them survived and others failed.In so doing, I articulate how
