L’opération de diagnostic archéologique engagée sur le projet du futur centre pénitentiaire de Bourg-en-Bresse a permis, dans un premier temps, de déterminer la stratigraphie de toute cette zone, et d’éliminer progressivement les parcelles ayant fait l’objet d’une exploitation récente.Le site s’inscrit sur une terrasse fluvio-glaciaire, dont la chronologie est probablement à rattacher au Riss.
