La fibromialgia es una enfermedad psicosomática de etiología desconocida, caracterizada por un estado doloroso crónico generalizado a nivel musculoesquelético, con presencia de puntos anatómicos dolorosos, rigidez, fatiga, trastornos del sueño, y cansancio generalizado, la cual padecen principalmente mujeres de edad media. La escasa evidencia empírica sobre patología orgánica, la importancia del dolor como síntoma en el diagnóstico, y su implicancia en la esfera afectiva, hacen de la fibromialgia una entidad compleja que ha llevado a dirigir las investigaciones a los factores psicológicos que mantienen el síndrome. No obstante, pocos estudios han examinado los rasgos de personalidad de los pacientes que presentan fibromialgia, y los resultados no han sido concluyentes. La presente investigación tuvo por objetivo describir los rasgos de personalidad, la presencia de alexitimia y la expresión de la ira, en un grupo de 30 mujeres con diagnóstico médico de fibromialgia. Se utilizó el Cuestionario Factorial de Personalidad 16 PF, la Escala de Alexitimia de Toronto (TAS-20) y el Inventario de expresión de Ira (STAXI-2). Los resultados muestran puntuaciones significativamente altas en 4 de 16 factores de personalidad: Dominancia, Sensibilidad, Autosuficiencia y Tensión. El rasgo de alexitimia puntúo ausente en un significativo porcentaje de la muestra, lo que no condice con la teoría de los pacientes psicosomáticos. Finalmente, el rasgo de ira aparece con un puntaje normal, sin embargo, frente a los sentimientos de ira, dichas pacientes, tienden a suprimirlos más que a expresarlos física o verbalmente.
