Abstract
En este trabajo se presenta la caracterización de una muestra de 15 cuentas procedentes de 12 sitios arqueológicos ubicados en el Valle del Cajón, el Valle de Santa María y la Falda Occidental del Aconquija, en el extremo meridional de los Valles Calchaquíes. Estos sitios han sido fechados en el período Formativo (ca. 1500 a.C. - 1000 d.C.) mediante datación radiocarbónica o asociación contextual. Las cuentas fueron analizadas utilizando difracción de rayos X de polvo (DRX) y espectroscopia Raman (ER) para identificar los minerales responsables de su color. En casos de asignación difícil, se empleó espectroscopia infrarroja de reflectancia difusa (DRIFTS). Los principales minerales registrados fueron turquesa (CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8.4H2O), sodalita (Na8(Al6Si6O24)Br2), muscovita (KAl2(Si3Al)O10(OH)2), ópalo (SiO2.xH2O), aragonita (CaCO3), crisocola (CuSiO3.2H2O) y calcita (CaCO3). Estos resultados revelan una notable diversidad de materiales utilizados, considerando el tamaño reducido de la muestra para el área y el período evaluados. Además, se ofrece una discusión sobre las materias primas y posibles fuentes de aprovisionamiento, relacionándolas con investigaciones previas realizadas en la región y áreas circundantes.
