Evaluation of renewable energy sources integration potential in a new development area

Abstract
This paper demonstrates the integration of multiple energy sources utilization strategies in a new development area in Switzerland. We use the energy hub approach to evaluate and optimize electrical and thermal energy dispatch schemes basing on cost, emission or combined objectives. A case study is conducted in an urban quarter in Switzerland with diverse building types and realistic weather condition. Simulations are carried out to exam the prospects of above-mentioned objectives. Results show that energy utilization efficiency could be enhanced through combining mixed building types in a quarter and implementing long-term (seasonal) energy storage technologies. Identification of energy utilization strategies in city quarters could provide a clearer vision on electricity network renovation incorporating more decentralized energy sources in the preliminary energy system design phase.
