Abstract
Ce mémoire s'intéresse à l'espace domestique, plus particulièrement à la cuisine comme lieu de travail des femmes. Ce domaine, encore peu étudié au Canada, fait appel à différentes disciplines et à diverses problématiques. Dans cette recherche on aborde principalement deux points : l'avènement de la consommation de masse au Québec après la Seconde guerre, notamment l'introduction de nouveaux biens d'équipement au sein des ménages; et la transformation de l'espace domestique et de l'organisation spatiale de la cuisine. Après la guerre, on assiste à une augmentation des constructions résidentielles. L'Etat canadien favorise la diffusion de la maison standardisée. L'espace domestique est ainsi soumis à la standardisation et à certaines règles normatives. Allié à l'introduction de nouveaux appareils ménagers et à une production en série des maisons, l'aménagement spatial de la cuisine se voit réorganisé.
