Par une combinaison entre anthropologie de l’enchantement (Winkin 2023) et études de lieux, cette recherche explore les rôles que prend l’enchantement des lieux dans le contexte des transformations des friches urbaines. S’appuyant sur des études de terrain (hôpital abandonné de Bavière, Liège, Belgique ; gare de triage désaffectée du Champ des Possibles, Montréal, Canada), l’auteur propose trois enquêtes : une enquête théorique au sein de la géographie humaniste et de la théorie de l’architecture trace un cadre pour comprendre les vides urbains en tant que métarécit fonctionnaliste et les lieux en tant qu’enchantement ; une enquête expressive dresse un portrait narratif-descriptif des lieux étudiés rendant compte des imaginaires sociaux des populations qui y sont attachées; une enquête ethnographique esquisse une typologie de l’ingénierie des pratiques professionnelles de l’enchantement des lieux en relation avec leurs conséquences pour les communautés impliquées. En définitive, cette étude aboutit sur une critique des pratiques architecturales au sein de la création contemporaine, basée sur une compréhension de l’institution imaginaire de la société (Castoriadis 1975) et des pratiques créatives généralisées dans une ère trans-esthétique (Serroy, Lipovetsky 2015). Cette critique ouvre des perspectives sur l’éthique architecturale et établit la prise en compte du travail des imaginaires sociaux comme essentiel pour reconfigurer la profession architecturale contemporaine.
