Il contributo esamina i resoconti di tre viaggiatrici che percorrono tra gli anni ’30 e ’80 dell’800 la Puglia e la Calabria, due regioni escluse dal Grand Tour, che restano poco battute anche negli anni postunitari. La prima, Angelica Palli, si reca in Puglia nel corso di una fuga verso la Grecia; la seconda, Aurelia Cimino Folliero De Luna, è una giornalista che vuole promuovere l’uso della ferrovia; l’ultima, Caterina Pigorini, è spinta da un interesse etnografico. Gli esiti delle esplorazioni delle tre autrici sono esaminati sia a fronte degli aspetti socio-culturali evidenziati nel corso dei viaggi, sia in relazione alle peculiarità dello sguardo femminile sul territorio.
