Abstract
Com esta investigação pretendemos averiguar se há influência do nível educacional e da profissão no desempenho em escalas de avaliação neuropsicológica. A amostra usada neste estudo é composta por 558 idosos sob resposta social com uma média de idades de 78,75 anos + 9,36 dos quais 255 não têm escolaridade e 300 têm escolaridade com o mínimo de 4 anos de ensino. Quanto à profissão 487 tinham profissões manuais e 44 tinham profissões intelectuais. As escalas usadas foram oMini mental State Examination (MMSE), o Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB), Fluências Verbais Semântica e Fonémica e a Figura Complexa de Rey. Na generalidade das escalas os sujeitos com escolaridade apresentaram pontuações médias mais elevadas quando comparadas com as médias obtidas pelos sujeitos sem escolaridade. Em relação à profissão os sujeitos com profissões intelectuais obtiveram pontuações médias superiores às dos sujeitos com profissões manuais. O grupo de idosos com escolaridade e com profissões intelectuais obtiveram pontuações médias mais altas que os idosos com escolaridade e com profissões manuais, as pontuações médias mais baixas foram verificadas no grupo de idosos sem escolaridade e com profissões manuais. Estes resultados mostram que há influência quer da escolaridade quer da profissão no desempenho global em escalas de avaliação neuropsicológica o que demonstra a necessidade de um controlo mais rigoroso do efeito destas variáveis sociodemográficas. / This research seeks to determine whether there is influence of educational level and profession on performance in neuropsychological assessment scales. The sample used in this study consists of 558 elderly people under social response with an average age of 78.75 years + 9.36 of which 255 have little or no schooling while 300 have a minimum of 4 years of education. Regarding occupation and 487 had manual occupations were 44 intellectual professions. The scales used were the Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB), Fluency and Phonemic Verbal Semantics and Rey Complex Figure in general, subjects with schooling had higher average scores compared with the averages obtained by subjects with no schooling. In relation to occupation, subjects with intellectual professions had average scores higher than those of subjects with manual occupations. The group of elderly people with education and intellectual professions had higher average scores than the elderly with education and manual occupations, the lowest average scores were observed in the elderly group with no schooling and manual occupations. These results show the influence of both education and profession in the overall performance in neuropsychological assessment scales which demonstrates the need for closer scrutiny of the effect of these sociodemographic variables.
