Dans ce mémoire, le travail de recherche consiste à analyser l'impact de l'adoption des normes IFRS (IAS-16 et IAS-37) par les entreprises publiques canadiennes, sur la divulgation des montants et des notes relatives aux provisions environnementales. Nous avons commencé par l'étude de quelques travaux antérieurs sur l'impact de l'adoption des IFRS sur la qualité et la quantité des informations financières des entreprises publiques. Certains résultats issus d'études empiriques antérieures ont remis en question l'hypothèse que l'introduction des normes internationales d'informations financières (IFRS) a eu un impact positif sur la divulgation financière, ce qui nous a conduit à formuler notre question de recherche. Pour répondre à cette question de recherche, nous avons examiné 100 entreprises publiques canadiennes. Cette étude empirique nous permet de savoir si l'adoption des \nIFRS par les entreprises canadiennes a un impact majeur sur les montants des provisions environnementales et sur les informations y relatives dans les notes aux états financiers. Les résultats nous ont montré que l'adoption des IFRS par les entreprises publiques a eu un impact significatif, aussi bien sur les montants des provisions environnementales (c'est-à-dire la quantité d'informations) que sur les informations présentées dans les notes aux états financiers (c'est-à-dire la qualité de l'information divulguée), lorsque les entreprises de l'échantillon sont prises globalement. Par contre, les analyses par secteur d'activité montrent des résultats relativement plus mitigés : les entreprises qui publiaient déjà des informations dans les notes aux états financiers ont accru leur niveau de détail suite à l'adoption des IFRS; par contre, celles qui publient peu ou pas du tout d'informations dans les notes ont maintenu leur comportement après l'adoption des \nIFRS. \n_____________________________________________________________________________ \n \nMOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : adoption des normes IFRS, divulgation financière, provision environnementale, Canada
