Abstract
Built as the "John B. Trevor" in 1895 at Superior, Wisconsin, this vessel was owned by Pittsburgh Steamship Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. Later, it went to Montreal Transportation Co. and had its name changed to "Atikokan." On February 1, 1919, it was sold to the Atlantic coast, where it was taken over by the Canada Steamship Lines in the early 1920s. In 1926, it was again sold. This time it was to the British Empire Steel Corp. The "John B. Trevor" was wrecked at Isle Royal in the fall of 1911. F. S. Wiley of Port Arthur bought and repaired it. The vessel was then placed in service in October 1912 (renamed "Atikokan"). In 1913, while passing down the St. Clair River at Marine City, Michigan, "John B. Trevor's" steering wheel choked causing the vessel to land on the bank. The boat house and dock were demolished. In 1918, it was sold to Cuban interests and cut in two for passage through the canal. Afterwards, it was welded together under the Quebec bridge. Late in 1919, the ship was bought by the Dominion Coal Co. After a couple of trips to the West Indies, it was laid up at Halifax, Nova Scotia, where its cabins were destroyed by fire and the hull was sold for junk. Registry closed on October 20, 1938.
