Abstract
Tra le fonti utili all’analisi del ruolo della componente sefardita nei traffici tra Ragusa e Venezia sono state prese in esame un libro commerciale privato e le assicurazioni delle merci esportate da Ragusa verso Venezia. La crescita vertiginosa dell’attività mercantile ebraica a Ragusa negli anni ’90 del XVI secolo fu contemporanea alla fondazione della Scala di Spalato, che nelle intenzioni della Serenissima avrebbe dovuto rivaleggiare con Ragusa catalizzando il mercato di esportazione balcanico verso la città. Ma dalla fine del Cinquecento gli scambi commerciali con Venezia degli ebrei ragusei si intensificarono; con le loro relazioni che si estendevano sui Balcani costoro contribuirono a rafforzare l’asse commerciale Ragusa-Venezia e a collegare i mercati dell’Europa ottomana e della penisola italiana.
