Per perseguire l’obiettivo dello sviluppo sostenibile, il Governo del Canada ha promosso negli ultimi decenni numerose iniziative, tra le quali la creazione di 14 zone dimostrative in cui applicare, studiare e divulgare la Gestione Forestale Sostenibile. L’articolo illustra la storia, le caratteristiche e le finalità delle Foreste Modello canadesi, un’idea esportata e applicata in altri Paesi di Asia, America Latina ed Europa, dove di recente è stato avviato un network per creare simili modelli dimostrativi di gestione.
