Abstract
Une recherche narrative a été conduite auprès de francophones de Moncton, de Sudbury, de Winnipeg et d’Ottawa ayant déjà eu ou vivant présentement un épisode dépressif important. Cette conférence aura pour but d’explorer la manière dont la structure représentationnelle des soins en santé mentale affecte le rapport aux services. Trois thèmes récurrents ont été identifiés comme éléments centraux du discours des participants recueilli lors d’entrevues semi-dirigées; soit la nature de l’aide, l’image de l’asile et l’image du fou. Chacune de ces notions comporte un vaste éventail d’éléments explicatifs concernant la réception et l’efficacité des soins et permet une meilleure compréhension des barrières sociales entourant les services en santé mentale. Une analyse qualitative et quantitative de ces catégories thématiques permettra de mettre en relief les ramifications et impacts concrets qu’ont eu ces représentations sur les participants de l’étude.
