Abstract
A partir de 1945, le Vieux-Québec est progressivement reconnu comme un lieu de mémoire nationale. Cette reconnaissance est sanctionnée par la protection de l'Etat accordée à l'arrondissement historique en 1963. Nous nous sommes intéressé au processus de construction de cette mémoire nationale, qui est ponctué d'une série de débats et consensus. L'examen de ce processus nous amène à reconnaître le développement d'une sensibilité historique de même que les transformations dans le temps de l'objet porteur de mémoire. Par ailleurs, notre étude met en évidence le rôle déterminant des fonctions identitaire et touristique de cette mémoire nationale. Ces fonctions se supportent mutuellement et favorisent l'inscription d'une représentation du passé dans l'environnement construit.
