Selon les données de l'Enquête Santé Québec 1998 (ESQ), seulement 10,6% des personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus qui présentent des symptômes de détresse psychologique consultent pour ces symptômes. Les études ayant cherché à comprendre pourquoi certaines personnes présentant des symptômes de détresse psychologique utilisent les services de santé et d'autres pas n'ont pu expliquer qu'environ 25% de la variance observée dans la décision de consulter. Malgré un nombre élevé de recherches consacrées à cette problématique, peu se sont intéressées à la contribution des préoccupations des personnes âgées face à la santé dans le processus décisionnel conduisant à l'utilisation des services de santé pour des symptômes de détresse psychologique. Cette étude a été réalisée auprès d'un échantillon probabiliste (n = 146) de personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus constitué à partir du registre de la Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). Dans un premier temps, nous avons vérifié la validité du construit de préoccupations face à la santé. L'analyse des données a été réalisée à l'aide d'une stratégie de modélisation d'équations structurales (LISREL)."--Résumé abrégé par UMI.
