Abstract
Dans la deuxième moitié du XVIIe siècle, des engagés, jeunes Français célibataires venus travailler sous contrat pour un maître à la mise en valeur de la Nouvelle-France, tentent, au terme de leur engagement, de s'insérer dans la société rurale du Gouvernement de Québec. A l'aide des actes tirés des archives notariales et des registres paroissiaux, nous avons voulu vérifier si l'engagiste et sa famille avaient secondé leur ancien engagé au cours des moments clés jalonnant son insertion sociale, c'est-à-dire à l'établissement sur une terre, au mariage et aux baptêmes. Nous avons constaté, qu'en plus de l'engagiste et de sa famille, qui prennent part à un ou plusieurs événements, le contexte de l'engagement, la famille de l'engagé de même que l'épouse et ses relations sont autant d'autres facteurs qui ont aidé l'engagé à s'insérer dans le tissu social de la colonie pour y devenir un pionnier.
