Abstract
Este artigo discute questões relativas a gênero na ciência, tecnologia e inovação presentes nas trajetórias das oito mulheres cientistas que ocupavam cargos de chefia em um instituto de pesquisa brasileiro, nas áreas espacial e do ambiente terrestre. Com o objetivo de conhecer os incidentes críticos que definiram os percursos profissionais, foi realizada pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, orientada pelo método biográfico-narrativo e mediante 16 entrevistas em profundidade. As narrativas, transcritas e organizadas em biogramas, permitiram identificar os aspectos singulares e os paradigmáticos presentes em suas trajetórias. Com formação em ciências exatas e da terra, e em engenharias, ambas áreas predominantemente masculinas, as narrativas das cientistas mostraram que sabiam, desde crianças, de suas habilidades e gosto pelas ciências exatas; mantiveram essas habilidades graças à influência dos pais ou outras figuras masculinas; enfrentaram as limitações referentes à conciliação do trabalho, estudo e maternidade; realizaram-se profissionalmente com a conquista de cargos de chefia, sempre permeada por questões de gênero. Considera-se que a ampliação das discussões sobre a temática pode contribuir para estimular as jovens a optarem pela atuação nas áreas espacial e do ambiente terrestre. RESUMEN:Este artículo aborda cuestiones de género en ciencia, tecnología e innovación presentes en las trayectorias de las ocho mujeres científicas que ocuparon puestos de liderazgo en un instituto de investigación brasileño, en las áreas del espacio y del medioambiente terrestre. Para conocer los incidentes críticos que definieron sus trayectorias profesionales, se realizó una investigación cualitativa, guiada por el método biográfico-narrativo a través de 16 entrevistas en profundidad. Las narraciones, transcritas y organizadas en biogramas, permitieron identificar aspectos singulares y paradigmáticos de sus trayectorias. Formadas en ciencias exactas y de la tierra y en ingenierías, áreas predominantemente masculinas, las científicas declararon que conocieron a una edad temprana sus habilidades y su gusto por las ciencias exactas; que preservaron estas habilidades gracias a la influencia de sus padres o de otras figuras masculinas; que enfrentaron las limitaciones con respecto a la conciliación del trabajo, los estudios y la maternidad; y que se realizaron profesionalmente al alcanzar puestos de liderazgo, pero su conquista estuvo marcada por cuestiones de género. Se considera que la expansión de las discusiones sobre el tema puede contribuir a que más mujeres jóvenes elijan desarrollarse en las áreas del espacio y el medioambiente terrestre. ABSTRACT: This article addresses gender issues in science, technology and innovation that were present in the careers of eight female scientists who held leadership positions at a Brazilian research institute in fields related to the Earths environment and space. In order to know the critical incidents that defined their professional journeys, a qualitative research was conducted, guided through biographical-narrative methods and 16 in-depth interviews. The accounts were transcribed and organized in biograms that allowed the identification of singular and paradigmatic aspects present in their careers. The scientists (who were graduates in engineering and exact and Earth sciences, predominantly male fields) accounts showed that they were aware of their skills and tendencies for these disciplines at an early age, and that they started to hone their skills through the influence of parents or other male figures. As for the balance between jobs, studies and maternity, they faced limitations. Although they achieved professional satisfaction by gaining leadership positions, their journeys were marked by gender issues. The authors of this article conclude that an expanded discussion on this subject could contribute to encouraging young women to study and work in fields related to the Earths environment and space.
