Abstract
… we’ll gear up to venture into the world of video game design… … learn how future COD students can enhance their college experience while still in high school… … and relive some of the spectacular moments from the last twenty years, made possible by the MAC… This year the McAninch Arts Center is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. Twenty years of fine performance and exhibition programming, in a state of the art facility that also provides exceptional instruction to ignite the creative spark in up and coming artists. With all of the arts under one roof, the MAC has grown to be a centerpiece for local visual and performing arts, and home to ten College of DuPage academic programs. Throughout the show, we’ll be taking a look back at just a few of the amazing highlights from the past twenty years. Today, we’ll see why, for two decades the college and community have looked to the MAC for inspiration, entertainment and an enriched cultural experience. With springtime approaching you would think many students are anticipating the end of another school year. But every year, hundreds of future-minded high school juniors and seniors who are serious about their higher education come to College of DuPage’s Junior/Senior Night – where prospective COD students get a preview of life at COD, valuable information to ensure a smooth transition, and a head start on a successful College of DuPage experience. Thousands of people camping out in front of electronics stores to be the first to purchase sophisticated gaming consoles is a sign that video games are not just a faddish amusement. Over the last thirty years we’ve seen video games morph from Pong, Space Invaders and Pac-Man – to immersive, interactive worlds where millions of on-line gamers can simultaneously explore, do battle and seek treasure with stunning 3D graphics and photo-realistic architecture. It’s a multi-billion dollar a year industry. And that means plenty of opportunity for individuals skilled in creating these other worlds. Images! embarks on a quest to discover the world of opportunity that awaits students enrolled in College of DuPage’s Video Game Design program. You don’t need to travel to Cannes to see the finest in international cinema. Global Flicks offers screenings of carefully selected international films at the McAninch Arts Center with faculty-led discussion following each showing. Global Flicks is pleased to announce their schedule for 2007 and invites students, faculty and community members to attend more than just an entertaining night at the movies – it’s a chance to participate in cultural and global-awareness raising events. Admission to Global Flicks is free and open to everyone. Listeners and supporters of 90.9 FM, WDCB found a great way to beat cabin fever in the heart of winter by venturing out for a fun-filled evening of fine dining, live music, dancing, prizes and a few surprises. WDCB, College of DuPage’s public radio station, hosted its eighth annual Winter Gala last month at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. Ticket proceeds benefit the station, and the station has a chance to show its appreciation and give something back to their loyal audience. The yearly fund-raising event is an opportunity for listeners and sponsors to support the station, offering jazz lovers a way to beat the winter blues.
