Pada dasarnya semua manusia memiliki kemampuan untuk menghasilkan suara dan bernyanyi. Namun, terdapat sebuah gangguan musik yang menghambat kemampuan alami setiap manusia tersebut. Salah satunya adalah amusia yang membuat seseorang sulit untuk mempersepsikan suara yang didengar. Berbagai penelitian sebelumnya terfokus pada latar belakang dalam kacamata neuroscience, sehingga menghasilkan sebuah alat identifikasi amusia yaitu Montreal Battery of Evaluation of Amusia (MBEA). Berangkat dari penelitian tersebut dan keresahan penulis ketika melatih vokal, penulis menggunakan MBEA untuk mengidentifikasi siswa kursus vokal dan memberikan pelatihan vokal untuk memperbaiki gangguan amusia. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode campuran berurutan eksploratori (exploratory sequential mixed methods) yang dilakukan dengan tes MBEA di awal, pelatihan vokal, dan tes MBEA akhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perkembangan yang baik setelah mengikuti pelatihan vokal yang rutin. Perkembangan ini ditunjukkan dengan peningkatan hasil tes MBEA siswa.
