Through the combined cooperation of the Banding Lab and New Mex1c~ Fish and Wildlife Service, your President served as Workshop 1nstructor where the technique of Birdbanding was demonstwated as as part of Wildlife Management at the 137,000 acre Philmont Scout Ranch and Training Center, Cimmaron, N.M., in early July.The actual focus of our workshops was the introduction of metrics, OBIS, and old Scouting Skills.But---after 50 hours of net time with a 5-meter mist net .. .four HY , Black-billed Magpies were CAUGHT BY HAND and banded.Banding at 6,800 feet in the "high country" of New Mexico is a cons i derable challenge.One of my Advisors in the two weeks of workshops and the banding venture was Walt Wenzel, Conservation Exec.-NationalB.S.A.Besides having served as Ranch Biologist for six years, he has the "eyes" of an Eagle when it comes to spotting wildlife.We hope to "follow-up" on this effort with an Ecology-Conservation Workshop which will be conducted by B.S.A. mid-July 1976, at Philmont Ranch.
