Abstract
Un proceso de Poisson es un proceso estocástico que representa el número de eventos o llegadas a un sistema que ocurren en un intervalo de tiempo, en el que los tiempos entre llegadas consecutivas son variables aleatorias independientes e idénticamente distribuidas, con distribución común exponencial. \nLos procesos de Poisson surgen naturalmente en una gran variedad de situaciones de la vida diaria. Por ejemplo, el proceso de Poisson o sus extensiones han sido utilizados para modelizar, entre otros, el número de accidentes de tráfico en un área, la localización de los usuarios de una red inalámbrica, las solicitudes de documentos por individuos en un servidor web o el estallido de guerras. Además, el proceso de Poisson es uno de los modelos más importantes usados en teoría de colas. \nUna generalización de estos procesos son los procesos de renovación, en los que los tiempos entre llegadas, si bien independientes, no siguen necesariamente una distribución exponencial. \nEl objetivo general de este trabajo es generalizar los procesos de Poisson a la situación en la que los tiempos de ocurrencia entre eventos sea cualquier sucesión de variables aleatorias independientes e idénticamente distribuidas, obteniéndose así los procesos de renovación. Para estos procesos los objetivos específicos son desarrollar su teoría probabilística y presentar algunas de sus aplicaciones.
