L’évolution de l’industrie porcine québécoise et canadienne caractérisée par une densification des troupeaux a, dans les dernières décennies, mené à une augmentation du confinement dans les bâtiments d’élevage. Les éleveurs de carrières occupent ces bâtiments pour une partie considérable de leur journée de travail, s’exposant ainsi à cet environnement confiné. Les porcheries sont reconnues comme étant des environnements fortement contaminés en poussières et bioaérosols. De plus, des effets néfastes sur la santé des occupants sont soupçonnés dans ces nouveaux bâtiments. Cette étude vise à détecter la présence et à quantifier six pathogènes humains, à mesurer la concentration en poussières et à détecter la présence de gènes de résistance d’importance en médecine humaine dans l’air des porcheries du Québec. Pour ce faire, dix porcheries québécoises ont été visitées et des échantillons d’air ont été prélevés dans chacune d’elle. Les six pathogènes à l’étude ont été investigués par des méthodes traditionnelles de culture et par biologie moléculaire. La concentration des poussières et suspension a été mesurée par gravimétrie ainsi que par lecture directe du diamètre aérodynamique de ces dernières. Les gènes de résistance ont été détectés par biologie moléculaire. Les résultats obtenus renforcent l’hypothèse que les porcheries en environnements tempérés comme celles du Québec et du Canada abritent de fortes concentrations en bioaérosols pouvant potentiellement avoir des effets néfastes sur la santé des travailleurs agricoles.
