Selon les données du Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux du Québec, la négligence représente la forme de maltraitement la plus répandue à travers le Québec et tout particulièrement envers les enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans. S'inscrivant dans la continuité de la recherche de Martin (2000) qui propose une classification des familles négligentes sur la base des cumuls des conditions adverses auxquelles sont confrontées les mères, notre étude vise d'une part à évaluer s'il y a une relation entre l'âge des enfants référés à l'application des mesures des Centres jeunesse pour négligence et le niveau de sévérité des caractéristiques personnelles des enfants et d'autre part à établir s'il y a une relation entre le niveau de sévérité du portrait clinique des mères négligentes tel qu'établi par Martin (2000) et les caractéristiques personnelles des enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans. Notre échantillon est composé de 115 enfants âgés entre 0 et 5 ans référés à l'application des mesures des Centres jeunesse pour négligence. Cet échantillon est tiré de l'étude de Pauzé, R., Toupin, J., Déry, M., Mercier, H. (2000)."--Résumé abrégé par UMI.
