Abstract
Pregnant women experience early labour as the first phase of labour with different physical and emotional symptoms. Primiparous women tend to be admitted to the hospital before labour progresses. However, early admission to the hospital was found to be associated with increased intervention and caesareans section rates. On the other hand, staying or returning home can cause ambivalent feelings, and for approximately a quarter of women, delaying hospital admission might not be the optimal strategy. To optimise and individualise early labour care, deeper knowledge about the symptoms of onset of labour and their relation to care needs during early labour is necessary.
