Abstract
Depuis plusieurs années, le surf est devenu un produit d’appel permettant à de nombreuses destinations touristiques de diversifier leur positionnement tout en se distinguant. Le Québec n’échappe pas à cet engouement pour la pratique du surf, où les adeptes locaux apprécient la liberté et les grands espaces du littoral. Cet article analyse la mise en tourisme du surf sur les côtes du Québec. À partir d’entrevues individuelles, cette recherche vise à apporter un éclairage nouveau en identifiant les composantes de cette pratique en eau froide au Québec. Présentement, le développement touristique du surf au Québec n’a pas atteint un afflux touristique préoccupant en termes de surtourisme ou de surfréquentation. Le faible aménagement du littoral et l’absence de stations balnéaires expliquent en partie que la pratique n’en soit qu’à un stade émergent. La pratique du surf en hiver, dans des paysages et des espaces sauvages, apparaît pour le moment privilégiée par les surfeurs locaux qui ont intégré cette activité dans leur mode de vie.
