Abstract
In the article, on the basis of materials published in Canadian-Ukrainian editions, which play the role of an archival and historical source (the source base of the history of Canadian-Ukrainian charity), and based on the interdisciplinary nature of Ukrainian studies, the philanthropy of Ukrainians in Canada is analysed as a spiritual and cultural phenomenon, a valuable moral basis and evidence of high intelligence, the Christian essence of the inner world of the members of the diaspora community.The history of Canadian Ukrainians is viewed through the prism of such a phenomenon as charity; an attempt is made to evaluate the contribution of members of the diaspora to the development of public policy and their influence on it in Canada; to research the biography of Canadian-Ukrainian philanthropists.In the context of socio-cultural transformations taking place in Canada, charity is considered as a factor consolidating Ukrainians of the diaspora, a unique building "material" of the diaspora unity for the preservation of their own national culture, language as components of the common national space, spirituality, the formation of basic principles underlying kindness, and human dignity.Numerous examples of this ethical and social phenomenon's manifestations, reflecting the community's moral values, worldview, social coexistence, and public culture, confirm the benevolence of Canadian Ukrainians. Specific cases of material support by hundreds of organisations, institutions, charitable foundations, and private individuals of those who needed and need protection in the name of affirming life, creation, and cooperation of the world community, which is especially relevant today at the time of the threat of comprehensive destruction, demolition, provide basis to conclude regarding the mass character, vitality, ethical, and social potential of the phenomenon of charity within the circle of the Ukrainian community in Canada.
