412,314.25 and the rate of interest allowed has been 5 p. c. per annum, making* annually $20,615.72.These interest payments were received by us half-yearly after the 1st January and 1st July, in each year.The half-yearly payment of the first of these two items, that of the School Funds, which fell due on the 1st January last, was withheld by the Dominion Government as a result of a protest on the part of the Government of On- tario, based upon the pretension that these amounts should not be paid to us until the dispute between the Provinces, which had been referred to arbitration, was settled.
