Abstract
El auge de la actividad extractiva en Colombia es cada vez mayor Su capacidad de generar rentas al pais parece estar por encima de las externalidades negativas que genera Este articulo analiza mediante un estudio de caso el papel de la cooperacion internacional para el desarrollo frente a la posible vulneracion de los derechos humanos en las comunidades de Chancleta y Patilla en el departamento de La Guajira Colombia Los hallazgos apuntan a que a pesar de estar vigentes acuerdos internacionales sobre proteccion de derechos humanos con los paises de origen de las multinacionales mineras como lo es con Canada la falta de accion estatal la posicion dominante de las companias y la ausencia de acciones de cooperacion internacional ha generado situaciones de afectacion de los derechos humanos y otras vulneraciones haciendo que contrasten la riqueza en recursos naturales de la zona con los altos niveles de pobreza y desigualdad que poseen
