Abstract
The thesis examines the origin of Coptic architecture \nand its modern transformation into Canadian Coptic \narchitecture. First, the genesis of the Coptic community and \nits faith is introduced to understand the development of \nCoptic architecture with the influence of ancient Egyptian \narchitecture throughout time, leading to contemporary \narchitecture examples. Following this, the reasons for \ntheir exile and emigration from Egypt to form the Coptic \ndiaspora are outlined. The second chapter investigates the \nstruggles and the persecution of the Copts. Case studies \nof the contemporary language of the diaspora reveal the \npreserved Coptic architecture essence. In the third chapter, \na design proposal that reflects the aspirations of the Coptic \ncommunity of Sudbury is proposed to revive and grow the \nCoptic community and reflect their new identity in their \nchurch.
