Abstract
Bartha Miklós (1847–1905) jogász, országgyűlési képviselő, korának legkiválóbb tollú publicistája, közírója, nagyhatású szónoka volt. Budapesten szerzett jogi diplomát, Udvarhelyszék első aljegyzőjeként kezdte pályáját. 1880-ban megalapította az 1944-ig kiadott kolozsvári Ellenzék című napilapot. Először 1873-ban választották be a képviselőházba, amelynek kisebb megszakításokkal haláláig tagja maradt. 1901-ig az Ugron Gábor-féle 48-as párt elnöke, 1891-től a Magyar Hírlap, 1893-tól a Magyarország című lap vezércikkírója volt. Második színművét huszonhat éves korában írta A feleség címmel. Az 1848–49-es szabadságharc utáni megtorlás időszakából merítette témáját, 1902-ben tűzte műsorára a Vígszínház a magyar est sorozatának századik darabjaként. A nézők általánosságban tetszéssel fogadták a bemutatót, a harmadik felvonás után Barthát nyolc alkalommal tapsolták vissza a színpadi függöny elé. A Vígszínház állandó közönsége távollétével tüntetett Bartha ellen, míg az ellenzék megjelenő hívei harsányan ünnepelték, de inkább a politikust és a publicistát, mint a színpadi szerzőt. A darab három előadást ért meg. 1937-ben azonban újra felbukkant. Csanády György székelyudvarhelyi születésű költő, a Székely himnusz szövegének szerzője, aki akkor a Rádió rendezője volt, írt belőle hangjátékot. Február 17-én hangzott el, előtte azonban Csanády tartott előadást a darabról. \n \nMiklós Bartha (1847–1905) was a lawyer, member of parliament, the most outstanding publicist and writer of his time, and a powerful orator. He obtained his law degree in Budapest and started his career as the first deputy notary of Udvarhelyszék. In 1880 he founded the daily newspaper Ellenzék in Kolozsvár (today: Cluj-Napoca, Romania), which was published until 1944. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1873 and remained a member until his death, with minor interruptions. He was president of Gábor \nUgron’s Constitution Party until 1901, editor of the Magyar Hírlap from 1891 and of the newspaper Magyarország from 1893. He wrote his second play, The Wife, at the age of 26. He drew his theme from the period of reprisals after the 1848-49 War of Independence, and in 1902 the Vígszínház (theatre in Budapest) staged it as the 100th play in its \nHungarian Evening series. The audience generally welcomed the premiere, and after the third act Bartha was applauded back to the curtain eight times. The permanent audience of the Vígszínház protested against Bartha by their absence, while the attending supporters of the opposition cheered loudly, but more for the politician and publicist than for the playwright. The play ran for three performances. In 1937, however, it reappeared. György Csanády, a poet born in \nSzékelyudvarhely (today: Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania) the author of the text of the Szekler Hymn, who was director of the Radio at the time, wrote a radio play based on it. It was performed on 17 February, and before that Csanády gave a lecture on the play.
