Dans ce travail, nous estimons l'impact des pairs sur la réussite scolaire au Québec. Nous utilisons des données provenant du Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport contenant les résultats de l'examen commun de mathématiques du ministère pour les élèves de niveau secondaire 4 pour l'année 2005. Nous utilisons un modèle de type SAR (spatial autoregressive model ) avec effets fixes de groupe s'inspirant de Lee (2007). Notre modèle prend en compte les inobservables dans la structure du groupe qui peuvent être corrélés avec les variables explicatives (cela nous permet donc théoriquement de résoudre les deux problèmes économétriques auxquels on a à faire face, soit le problème d'endogénéité et celui des variables corrélées). Ce modèle a été estimé en utilisant une méthode de moindres carrés en deux étapes généralisés (appelée aussi "méthode de variables instrumentales généralisées"). Nous exploitons la variation dans la taille des groupes pour identifier notre modèle. Notre estimateur est convergent et asymptotiquement efficace dans la classe des estimateurs de variables instrumentales. Nous trouvons un effet endogène négatif et significatif de la note moyenne du groupe de l'élève sur sa propre note. Un tel effet pourrait s'expliquer par un effet de découragement ou de congestion. Il pourrait aussi provenir du fait qu'on n'observe pas le véritable groupe de référence de l'élève (e.g. ses amis).
