Abstract
La ligature des trompes et la vasectomie sont deux moyens de stérilisation très utilisés comme pratique contraceptive au Canada. Le but de cette étude est de connaitre certains facteurs psychosociaux associés au choix du mode de stérilisation. Les facteurs mesurés à l'aide de questionnaires sont: a) la motivation, b) l'information recueillie sur les méthodes de stérilisations, c) les connaissances sur chaque procédure et d) l'entente conjugale. Soixante-quatorze sujets (34 hommes et 40 femmes) recrutés dans trois hôpitaux de la ville de Québec, participent à l'étude. Les hypothèses sont: (1) les patient-es démontrent une motivation plus élevée que celle de leur conjoint-e; ( 2a) les patient-es ont pris plus d'information que leur conjoint-e, (2b) ils ont plus de connaissances sur la stérilisation en général, (2c) ils ont plus de connaissances que leur conjoint-e sur la stérilisation choisie; (3) il y a une meilleure entente conjugale dans le groupe ayant choisi la vasectomie. Les résultats indiquent des différences entre les deux groupes pour les variables Motivation et Connaissance mais aucune sur l'entente conjugale. La discussion porte sur la signification de ces résultats.
