Abstract
La Coupe du monde en Afrique du Sud, les Jeux Olympiques de Vancouver, l'Exposition universelle de Shanghai, l'année 2010 est riche en grands événements internationaux qui rassemblent des foules bigarrées dont la présence est elle-même constitutive de la grandeur de ces manifestations. Les images de foules tendent cependant souvent à nous renvoyer vers un corpus de textes remontant à fin du XIXe siècle, alors qu'elles constituent un objet d'étude actuel qui mérite le développement de nouvelles problématiques. Ce numéro explore différentes voies pour repenser la foule en histoire et en sciences sociales, que ce soit en tant qu'enjeu politique, mythe fondateur, objet de controverse, ou lieu de construction de la socialité.
