Suomessa on noudatettu pitkään loishäätökäytäntöä, jossa tallin kaikilta hevosilta häädetään sisä-loiset ja tarvittaessa ulkoloiset yhtäaikaisesti, noin neljä kertaa vuodessa. Yleinen ohje loislääkitykseen on ollut, että erilaisia loislääkkeitä käytettäisiin vuorotellen lääkeresistenssin välttämiseksi. Viime vuosina on kuitenkin havaittu, että sisäloiset ovat pystyneet kehittämään resistenssin käytettyjä loislääkevalmisteita vastaan. Nykyiset loishäätö suositukset ovatkin tämän myötä muuttuneet radikaalisti. Nykyään hevosten loishäätö suositellaan tapahtuvan kohdennetusti lanta-analyysiin perustuen. \n \nOpinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää Pohjois-Savon hevostalleilla käytettyjä loishäätökäytänteitä. Keväällä 2011 lähetetyn kyselytutkimuksen perusteella hevostalleilla on siirrytty suositusten mukaisiin loishäätökäytäntöihin. Kaikkia talleja suositukset eivät kuitenkaan ole tavoittanut. \nKysely lähetettiin sähköisesti Typala-järjestelmän kautta 71:lle Pohjois-Savossa sijaitsevalle tallille, jotka valittiin kyselyyn satunnaisesti. Kyselytutkimukseen vastasi 19 hevostalousyrittäjää, joten vastausprosentiksi saatiin 26,7 %. Kyselyyn vastaajista osalla oli alan koulutus ja osalla hevosliiketoiminta oli päätoimista. Nämä kaksi seikkaa voivat vaikuttaa siihen, miten tarkkaan loishää-tösuosituksia noudatetaan. \n \nTutkimuksessa saatuja tuloksia ei voi yleistää koko Suomen alueella, eikä edes koko Pohjois-Savon alueella, koska kaikki kyselyn saaneet eivät koskaan vastanneet. Kuitenkin voimme olettaa joitakin asioita ja miettiä maalaisjärkeä käyttämällä, missä tilanteessa loishäädöt talleilla ovat nyt ja mitä tulevaisuudessa pitäisi asialle tehdä. Opinnäytetyöni kautta hevosten kanssa työskentelevät ihmiset saavat ajankohtaista tietoa hevosten loishäädöstä ja voisivat parhaimmassa tapauksessa jopa parantaa hevostensa kohdalla loishäätö käytäntöjä ja terveyttä. Vähintäänkin, hevostaloutta harjoittavat, voivat ainakin verrata työtäni omiin käytössä oleviin loishäätökäytäntöihin.
