Abstract
The Covid-19 outbreak has had significant human \nand economic impacts for Vietnam, as it has for \nmany other countries, with a large number of people \nhaving sunk down into extreme poverty. The Covid-19 \npandemic slowed global GDP and increased global \npoverty, with the poorest countries feeling the \ngreatest impact. \n \nVietnam’s first detected case of Covid-19 was \nreported in Ho Chi Minh City on 23 January 2020, and \ninfections spread quickly across the entire country. \nThe Government restricted international travel, \nsuspended visas for foreigners entering Vietnam, \nand closed all schools between February and April \n2020. \n \nKey sectors of Vietnam’s economy have faced \nserious challenges, from trade to hospitality, and \nglobal lockdowns and economic slowdowns have \naffected vital sources of income for many families, \nsuch as the remittances sent home by international \nand internal migrants. Migrant families, in particular, \nmay be severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
