Abstract
Imatran kaupunki on ollut vuosien saatossa muutosten keskellä. Väkiluku on vähentynyt jo pitkän aikaa ja viime vuosina globaalit muutosvoimat, pandemia ja Venäjän hyökkäyssota Ukrainaan ovat koetelleet kaupunkia ja sen elinkeinorakennetta. Kaupungissa harjoitetulla elinkeinopolitiikalla on keskeinen merkitys alueen elinvoimaisuuden säilymisessä ja kehittymisessä. \n \nTämän tutkimuksen ensisijaisena tarkoituksena oli lisätä ymmärrystä Imatran elinkeinostrategian kehittämisen tarpeista nykyisessä toimintaympäristössä. Tavoitteena oli haastattelututkimuksen avulla tehdä konkreettisia löydöksiä, joita kaupunki voi jatkossa hyödyntää. \n \nImatran kaupungin uusin strategia on laadittu Suomen Kuntaliiton ohjeistuksen mukaan, mutta erillistä elinkeinostrategiaa ei ole kaupungilla ollut yli kymmeneen vuoteen. Tutkimuksen perusteella strategiset toimenpiteet on pääosin tunnistettu nykyisessä strategiassa, mutta ne eivät ole jalkautuneet käytäntöön täysimääräisesti. Imatralla on kuitenkin tunnistettu kehityspisteet ja tahtotila muutokseen on kaikilla osapuolilla.
