Abstract
Tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin ikääntyneiden naisten henkilökohtaisia tavoitteita ja niiden yhteyttä liikkumiskykyyn ja mielialaan. Tutkimuksessa todettiin, että ikääntyneiden naisten yleisimmät tavoitteet liittyvät terveyteen ja toimintakykyyn, liikuntaan, ihmissuhteisiin sekä itsenäiseen asumiseen ja elämäntavan säilyttämiseen. Niillä, joiden liikkumiskyky oli rajoittunut, oli enemmän terveyteen ja toimintakykyyn ja vähemmän liikuntaan liittyviä tavoitteita kuin niillä, joiden liikkumiskyky oli hyvä. Tavoitteiden ja mielialan välillä ei havaittu olevan yhteyttä. Tutkimus antaa viitteitä siitä, että toimintakyvyn ongelmat vaikuttavat tavoitteiden asettamiseen ja lisäävät terveyden ja toimintakyvyn merkitystä ikääntyneiden elämässä. Huomattavaa on se, että liikkumiskyvyn ongelmat ovat yhteydessä vähäisempiin liikuntaan liittyviin tavoitteisiin. Kun liikunnan harrastamista ei aseteta itselle tavoitteeksi, on oletettavaa, että jo rajoittunut liikkumiskyky heikkenee edelleen. Erityisesti liikkumiskyvyn ongelmia kokevien ikääntyneiden liikunnan harrastamisen tukemiseen tulisikin kiinnittää enemmän huomiota.
