Hospital waiting lists in the eastern region have shown a significant reduction for the third quarter of 2002.The number of inpatients has decreased by 1,197 in the hospitals in the east (see table below).This is a percentage decrease of almost 9% on the total of 13,542 on the in-patient hospital waiting list in the east at the end of June.Full story on page 5 There were more than 2 million attendances at acute hospitals in the eastern region in 2002, 30,000 additional patients were treated and day cases were up by over 15%, according to an end of year review of services for 2002 carried out by the Eastern Regional Health Authority.Capital funding of 22.5 million was invested by the Authority to open an additional 269 acute care beds.
