Abstract
La séparation de l'Église et de l'État, intervenue en France le 9 décembre 1905, a eu un profond retentissement dans la presse québécoise à une époque marquée par la transformation de la presse dans les pays développés en un média de masse. La problématique qui anime notre étude n'est pas de savoir quel impact la Séparation en France a pu avoir sur les mentalités au Canada français, mais comment cet événement a été perçu, de décembre 1905 à janvier 1907, par quatre journaux fortement marqués sur le plan idéologique: Le Soleil, La Croix, L'Evénement et Le Canada. En effet, la crise religieuse qui secoue alors la France cristallise les tensions entre leurs différentes visions de l'avenir du Québec. La Séparation va amener chacun de ces quatre journaux à réfléchir sur la société québécoise et à énoncer, ou à s'opposer vivement, à tout nouveau modèle de relations entre l'Église et la société.
