La dépression et l'incapacité excédentaire chez les personnes âgées : évaluation d'un traitement à domicile

Abstract
Les protocoles d'auto-traitement sont considérés comme des alternatives aux traitements psychothérapeutiques traditionnels qui sont difficiles d'accès pour plusieurs personnes âgées vivant à domicile. La bibliothérapie pour la dépression , un tel autotraitement, est d'une efficacité limitée selon les études réalisées à date. Cette étude visait à évaluer une intervention combinant un manuel d'auto-traitement et des sessions de soutien téléphonique. Trois personnes âgées de 60 ans ou plus rencontrant les critères de dépression majeure ont participé à un programme à niveau de base multiple (AB). Les sujets ont lu un chapitre et participé à une session de soutien téléphonique à chaque semaine pendant trois mois. À la fin du traitement, deux des trois sujets étaient en rémission pour la dépression majeure, et une élimination complète de l'incapacité excédentaire a été observée. Ces résultats étaient maintenus à la relance un mois plus tard. Des recommandations quant à l'orientation future des traitements et de la recherche sont formulées.
