Cette étude quantitative vise à découvrir si, comme aux États-Unis, la popularité du gouvernement canadien augmente momentanément suite aux interventions militaires à l'étranger. Afin de capter l'effet minime et éphémère des rallies, des données mensuelles concernant : les déploiements des Forces canadiennes à l'étranger, les facteurs économiques ainsi que politiques, la tension internationale et les soldats canadiens morts dans les déploiements à l'étranger ont été amassées de janvier 1990 à mars 2002. Nous avons trouvé que la fonction du soutien populaire envers le parti au pouvoir variait d'un gouvernement à l'autre, et qu'il s'agissait en fait de la variable la plus influente de notre modèle. Nos conclusions sont que : l'opinion publique canadienne est latente en ce qui a trait aux opérations canadiennes militaires à l'étranger ; et, les caractéristiques propres au Canada, en particulier notre système parlementaire et la régionalisation du vote, compliquent la généralisation du rallie au Canada pour notre période d'étude.
