Abstract
Les garçons et les filles manifestent-ils la même motivation dans leurs études collégiales ? Pour répondre à cette question, une fois évoquées les différences entre filles et garçons sur le plan de l'apprentissage, l'auteur de cet article présente une partie des résultats de sa recherche s’appuyant sur le point de vue des étudiants du programme Sciences humaines au Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, en regroupant ces derniers selon le sexe et le calibre. Pour les fins de cet article, il retient cinq composantes de la motivation : le contexte, la perception de sa compétence à accomplir une activité, la perception de sa propre motivation, le choix d'entreprendre une activité et l'engagement cognitif à accomplir une activité. À partir des résultats obtenus, l'auteur dégage plusieurs recommandations propres à renforcer la motivation des étudiants : une pédagogie active et variée, un pairage systématique d'étudiants forts-faibles, une préparation adéquate à l'étude au secondaire, un soutien renforcé du projet d'études et de carrière ainsi qu'une représentation plus juste du cégep dès le secondaire.
