Abstract
Suomessa on mahdollista elää ilman suomen kielen taitoa. Tutkinto-opiskelijoissamme on opiskelijaryhmiä, jotka eivät ole tekemisissä suomenkielisten kanssa, vaan ne tulevat toimeen englannin kielellä. Pelkkä yritysten englanninkielinen toimintaympäristö ei sekään edistä huippuammattilaisten sitoutumista. On havaittu, että mikäli maahanmuuttajataustaiset ammattilaiset eivät osaa suomen kieltä ja tunne suomalaista kulttuuria, Suomessa työskentely voi jäädä lyhytaikaiseksi. Useilta Varsinais-Suomen alueen yrityksiltä on tullutpalautteena tarve suomen kielen taitoisiin osaajiin riippumatta työkielestä. Lisäksi useden maahanmuuttajataustaisten henkilöiden henkilökohtaiset kertomukset viittaavat siihen, että suomen kieltä tarvitaan vasta, kun hakee työpaikkaa. Tämä oravanpyörä on mahdollista pysäyttää, kun maahanmuuttajataustaisten koulutus järjestetään suomeksi ja oppimiselle annetaan aikaa.
